San Vito lo Capo, considered to be the pearl of the Costa Gaia, is located along the north-west coast of Sicily , in the province of Trapani and between the natural reserves of “Zingaro” and “Monte Cofano”
an area full of history as well as natural beauties, the village is every year one of the favorite destinations for those tourists who love the sea and the good cuisine. Very well organized, San Vito lo Capo offers you all mod cons and services: a craft harbor, sailing and windsurfing schools, boat or horse-riding excursions, discos and actually hotels, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, boutiques, banks and so on.
Every morning, in the small port in front of Cala Mancina Village, the fishermen display and sell their fishes. Moreover, San Vito lo Capo offers you the opportunity to discover some ancient flavours such as the wood fired brick oven baked bread, fresh cheeses, fresh oil and vegetables, couscous, “cassatelle” with ricotta cheese, busiata (pasta) and the very tasty “ghiotta” with fish. Finally the local craftsmanship deserve special attention with its renewed splendor.
Gastronomy:
Couscous fish is one of the traditional local dishes. It was born from the union between Arabic cuisine and the traditional local fishing. Every year to Couscous is dedicated the Couscous Fest: an international festival where the culinary traditions related to the preparation of Couscous in all Mediterranean Countries meet and confront each other.
Not so far from San Vito lo Capo, the Zingaro Natural Reserve enchants with its panoramic view of promontories vertically dropping into the sea and uncontaminated creeks. Beautiful place both in Spring, when it’s possible to have long walk, and in Summer when it is full of sea and diving lovers, the Zingaro Natural Reserve is the most ancient and famous place among the 11 reserves located in the territory of Trapani.
Moreover, the Zingaro Natural Reserve has become the refuge for many species, above all birds of prey which, finding here food and refuge, have elected it as the most favourite place for nesting: Peregrine Falcons, Buzzards, Kestrels, Imperial Ravens, Dark Buntings, Lone Sparrows, Coturnix and even a couple of the very rare Bonelli’s Eagle. Many passionate people about bird-watching visit the reserve as well as many are those passionate about diving who come here to watch the numerous fish species which populate the seabed and the underwater caves. If you would like to enjoy an entire day of sun and sea in an uncontaminated paradise, where the only thing a person can do is to respect the Nature, so the Zingaro Natural Reserve is the right place for you.
Within the reserve you find several paths of different length and to multiple destinations which will allow you to admire the wonderful landscape completely immersed in the typical Mediterranean vegetation that, within the Zingaro, has a real explosion of shapes thanks to its 700 catalogued species among which about twenty rare and endemic ones: from the Ash tree to the Bay tree, from the Mauve to the Prickly Pear or to the Capper, from the Fennel to the Carob. Furthermore, it’s possible to find Wild Olives, Lentisc, Agaves and Dwarf Palms.
